Two Devices. Two Important Jobs.
A thermostat manages heating and cooling. A carbon monoxide (CO) alarm warns about a dangerous gas you cannot see or smell. Having both means looking after everyday comfort and a separate home-safety need.
A simple schedule can reduce daily thermostat adjustments. Keeping a record of CO alarm replacement dates takes another item off your mental checklist. They do not have to connect to each other to be useful, and a thermostat is not a substitute for a CO alarm.
CO Alarms Expire—Even With Fresh Batteries
Check the replacement date and model instructions on your carbon monoxide alarm. Service life varies; many Kidde models last 7 or 10 years. Follow your specific alarm’s guidance rather than assuming every detector has the same lifespan.
An end-of-life warning means replacing the whole alarm. New batteries do not renew the sensor. Chirp patterns vary by model, so use the manual to distinguish low battery, fault and end-of-life signals. Do not assume an active CO alarm is just a battery problem.
If a CO alarm sounds or you suspect CO exposure: get everyone outside to fresh air, call 911 from outside and stay out until emergency responders say it is safe. Do not wait for an HVAC appointment.

CHOOSE FEATURES THAT FIT YOUR HOME
Simple Controls. Useful Features. Clear Guidance.
Thermostat Replacement

A blank display, confusing controls or inconsistent operation deserves a closer look. We review the thermostat and HVAC system before recommending replacement, then help you choose controls you feel comfortable using.
Smart & Wi-Fi Thermostats

Compatible smart thermostats can offer phone access, schedules and usage information. Features vary by model, and remote access depends on connectivity. Choose useful features for your routine rather than paying for options you will not use.
System Compatibility

The right match depends on your HVAC equipment, heating and cooling stages, wiring and power requirements. Heat pumps and communicating systems need particular attention. We check compatibility before recommending a controller.
Schedules & Everyday Use

A setup that fits your day should be easy to live with. We can explain scheduling, temporary holds and available reminders. ENERGY STAR certified smart thermostats are independently verified for energy savings, but your results depend on your home and use. Explore ENERGY STAR guidance.
CO Alarm Replacement Dates

Keep the model number, installation date and replacement deadline in one place. Check the manufacturer’s instructions if the age is unknown. An alarm that has reached its stated service life needs replacement, even if its test button still makes a sound.
Alarm Placement & Care

CPSC recommends CO alarms on every level and outside sleeping areas. Follow the model’s placement and battery instructions, test monthly and keep alarms unobstructed. Alarms complement proper fuel-burning appliance maintenance; they do not replace it.

Thermostat & CO Alarm Questions
Will a smart thermostat work with my HVAC system?
Not every thermostat works with every HVAC system. Compatibility depends on the equipment, number of stages, controls and wiring. Some models require a C-wire or an approved power solution. We can review your setup before you buy.
Do carbon monoxide detectors expire?
Yes. Follow the replacement date and service-life instructions for your specific model. An end-of-life warning calls for a new alarm, not just new batteries. If you cannot identify its age, check the label and contact the manufacturer for guidance.
Do my thermostat and CO alarms need to connect?
No. Each can do its own job independently. Some products support connected features, but compatibility must be verified for the exact models. Do not assume your thermostat detects CO or automatically shuts down equipment when an alarm sounds.
What should I do if my CO alarm sounds?
If a CO alarm sounds or you suspect exposure, leave for fresh air immediately and call 911 from outside. Do not reenter until responders give permission. A routine service request is not an emergency response. For an identified low-battery or end-of-life chirp, follow your model’s instructions promptly.
